Dentistry Reforms still causing disarray2.27.34pm GMT Tue 7th Nov 2006 Sandra Gidley Commenting on figures released today showing that over 1000 dental contracts are still in dispute, six months after the new contract was introduced. Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson, Sandra Gidley MP said: "Patients struggling to find an NHS dentist will be disheartened to hear that over 1000 contracts are still in dispute. "There is no excuse for the delay in sorting out this problem which leaves a heavy cloud over the future of NHS dentistry and is demoralising for those working in the profession. "Disputed contracts are a constant reminder of the dental profession's discontent with Government reforms, which do nothing to improve preventative care. "The Government seems hell-bent on driving through reforms without regard to their impact on patients or professionals, resulting in the current mess." Applicability: this item refers to England and Wales. Due to devolution, detailed policy may be different in other areas of the UK. Note: If you are having difficulty registering with a NHS dentist please call the NHS Dental helpline on 02380 338336 who will be able to help you find a NHS dentist
